Since joining NetSuite directly out of college nine years ago via OpenAir, Tom Nagy, a regional account manager for Asia, has had some very different vantage points from which to view the evolution of NetSuite.
From Maine to Manila, Denver to Singapore, service to sales, Nagy is just one of the many dedicated employees contributing to the company’s success. He began his career, directly out of College of the Holy Cross as a customer success associate at OpenAir, the professional services automation (PSA) software company NetSuite acquired in 2008, essentially providing customer support before eventually moving into frontline client service roles. In 2009, he moved to the Philippines for six months to train the OpenAir support team in Manilla, before moving back to the US to take a sales role in account management and eventually managing another Philippines team across multiple industry-specific groups (this time from Denver).
After moving to Maine and marrying his then fiancé Jenna, Nagy was on the move again, relocating to Singapore, where he now manages the account management team for Asia.
Through it all, NetSuite’s momentum and commitment to its core mission has been a source of energy and inspiration for Nagy.
“Despite the company’s rapid growth, the NetSuite Singapore office remains true to the company’s core mission, while still behaving like a start-up company,” Nagy said. “Many of the attributes take me back to my OpenAir days. There is an upward momentum that can be felt at NetSuite; things are always changing, for the better.”
NetSuite has given Nagy the opportunity to work at multiple global offices, across multiple roles, serving different types of customers.
“Many of the people I work with are not just colleagues, but friends,” Nagy said. “People are happy to come to work at NetSuite, and this translates to a positive work environment.”
Jenna has gotten into the NetSuite action as well. She is leading the operations for a global nonprofit organization at its start-up office in Singapore. Called Dress for Success, it promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. When Dress for Success needed a software system, Nagy encouraged Jenna to apply for a grant from NetSuite.org, NetSuite’s corporate citizenship program, which was granted a week later.
“NetSuite is clearly part of our lives,” Nagy said.
Through it all, Nagy has been able to satisfy his love for snowboarding (flights to Japan, which according to Nagy has some of the most consistent, driest powder on the planet, are a regular occurrence) and for food. He’s found a happy home ‘away from home’ in Singapore.
“I’m a self-proclaimed food nerd and Singapore is the perfect place to embrace that label,” he said. “The food scene is mind boggling. Give me a plastic stool in a hawker centre, a plate of char kway teow, and a cold tiger beer, and I’m a happy dude. Plus, it’s hard to not first mention the beauty of the Singapore office. Look out the sun drenched windows, and you have the incredible Marina Bay Sands building right there.”
